After growing up on the San Francisco Peninsula, Dr. Starr pursued his undergraduate, medical, and residency training at the University of California, Davis. He completed his surgical training at Harvard Medical School and was promoted to Harvard faculty in 1993. In 1995 Dr. Starr returned to California and joined the Stanford Medical School faculty, where he established and directed the Division of Dermatologic and Laser Surgery. He started his private practice in 1999 and focuses on the management of complex skin cancers, with a special emphasis on Mohs micrographic surgery. Dr. Starr remains on the Stanford Medical School faculty as an Adjunct Clinical Faculty Assistant Professor where he teaches medical students and residents advanced surgical techniques.
